Teaching

For Students

My goal in teaching is to spark enthusiasm for both linguistics and critical thinking.

I teach courses in introductory linguistics, semantics, pragmatics, syntax, morphology, typology, linguistic fieldwork, logic, writing, and the interfaces of these subjects.

My teaching philosophy includes:

Guidance through theoretical frameworks and the evidence which supports them
An emphasis on diversity and representation in the classroom, including:
- diverse language data, including data from my students and data from my own research
- diverse names in example sentences
Investment in evidence-based teaching practices, including evaluation systems that best serve students' learning and well-being
Using linguistics as a tool to develop skills in writing and scientific reasoning
Individualized mentorship and advising
Enthusiasm for my course material and my students!
